The new Moto Razr 3 may not be the expected update for the model

There are rumors that Motorola is planning to launch the Moto Razr 3 as early as July, and recently, images of the new phone leaked online. The new Moto Razr could be a strong competitor to the Galaxy Z Flip 4, but leaked specifications now show that Motorola’s foldable phone may not be the update many people were hoping for.

Motorola launched its first Razr smartphone in 2020 with a 2,510mAh battery, and what consumers have reported is that the battery didn’t even last a day. For the Moto Razr 5G, the battery has been bumped up to 2,800mAh, which is an improvement but nowhere near as big as today’s non-foldable cell phone batteries.

New information indicates that the third generation Moto Razr will feature the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip, which is the first class processor on the market. Unfortunately, according to the leaked digital chat station, Motorola can pair this chip with an identical 2800mAh battery.

According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 has improvements in power consumption, but this is still a powerful chipset. With this battery and chip configuration, it’s very difficult for the Moto Razr 3 to support a full day of use, especially considering that the model will have a 120Hz screen.

Yes, ‘oyster’ style foldable phones usually have smaller battery packs because they are more compact. Samsung’s Z Flip 3 mitigated this issue with a 3,300mAh battery, but even that proved to be one of the phone’s weaknesses in our review.
