State Police arrest 8 people, rescue victims from N.J. human trafficking ring, officials say

New Jersey state police have arrested eight people and thwarted a human trafficking gang that forced victims into prostitution after smuggling them into the United States with the promise of legal jobs, authorities said Thursday.

As part of the four-month investigation, investigators identified several victims while carrying out search warrants in New Jersey homes, according to police. Alleged gang leader Paulino Macaulas Aguirre, 43, of Trenton, has been arrested on charges including human trafficking, sexual assault, money laundering and promoting child prostitution.

“This investigation shows our dedication to using every resource we have at our disposal to bring these criminals to justice and to dismantle processes that do lifelong harm to victims,” said Colonel Patrick Callahan, Superintendent of State Police.
