Spotify announces new upcoming events calendar feature

Spotify announced a new feature on Thursday to show users a schedule of upcoming events. With the new tool, the company aims to connect people with their favorite artists, after all, listening to music on headphones is great, but going in person to a live show is a great experience.

Called a live event feed, this feature informs users of all the events that happen live in their vicinity. The new tool comes to replace the Concert Hub, which was based on listing future offerings closer to the user’s location.

“We know how important live events are to creators and the music industry in general, and how much life has gone through during the pandemic. With shows back and listeners hearing to see their favorite artists perform live once again, we think this is the time,” said Rene Volker, Senior Director of Live Events at Spotify. Ideal for exploring new ways for Spotify to further support the industry.”

“We’ve spent about two years studying the industry, its products, and its users. One of the main behaviors we see is that fans engage with artists on the platform, but then go out to search online listings or even follow artists on social media for the sole purpose of staying up to date with their events. “We think the Live Events feed is an opportunity to help bridge this loop,” said Live Event Discovery Product Manager Sam Sheridan.
