Samsung Takes Top Spot in Indian Tablet Market in Q1 2022, Beats Apple’s Premium Tablets: Report


Samsung took the top spot in the Indian tablet market even as a whole segment in the first quarter of 2022, according to a new report. The South Korean tech giant is said to have captured 40 percent of the market share. The new report indicates that Samsung not only dominates other Android tablet companies, but has also overtaken Apple iPads in terms of market performance in India. Moreover, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 series was named as one of the best-selling tablet models in India in the first quarter of 2022.

According to the Deccan Herald report citing market research firm IDC, Samsung has become a leader in the Indian tablet market by securing more than 40 percent of the market share with a quarterly growth of up to 10 percent in the first quarter of 2022, as compared to the previous quarter.

The report says that the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 saw the largest number of shipments in the tablet market in India, along with the premium Samsung Galaxy Tab S8, in the first quarter of 2022.

“The popularity of the Galaxy Tab S8 series and the recently launched Galaxy Tab A8 series has enabled us to consolidate our leadership in the tablet market. The success of the Galaxy Tab S8 series, and especially the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, is testament to the fact that consumers appreciate meaningful innovations that add value and solve tasks. Our broad channel presence and hardware availability across price segments and attractive consumer software has helped us cement our leadership,” said Sandeep Pozwal, Head of Business, New Computing Business, Samsung India.

Usually, it can be seen that the premium tablet market in India is often dominated by Apple tablets, which include the standard iPad, iPad mini, iPad Air and iPad Pro series. But this time around, Samsung has managed to emerge as a leader in the premium tablet charging market in India, according to the report.
