Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Jose Quintana is a hot commodity.

That could mean some bargaining competition for the New York Mets, who will be looking for more depth before the August 2 trading deadline. A bowler like Quintana would be an especially necessary acquisition if Jacob deGrom takes a step back in his rehabilitation.

Quintana is 2-4 with a 3.33 ERA. On Tuesday against the Yankees, he left six hits over five runs without a walk.

Depth of the field was a top concern for the Mets, who had to put several starters including deGrom (reflexive sstress in the right shoulder), Max Scherzer (reflexive stress in the right shoulder) and Tylor Megill (stressed right shoulder) on the injured roster.

On Tuesday, Shearzer returned with his first game against the Cincinnati Reds. He threw six runs, hitting 11 on 79 throws. The Mets ended up losing 1-0 to Seth Lugo.
