iPhone 14 Pro Models to Get Always-On Display Support via iOS 16: Mark Gurman

The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will get permanent screen support with iOS 16, according to a report. The new iOS version, which is expected to debut at the WWDC 2022 major next week, is said to come with future support for the always-on lock screen. Apple’s iOS 16 is also said to have updated Messages, and new social networking-like features. Alongside the new iOS release, the Cupertino company is expected to showcase an update to iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS, and macOS at the WWDC major.

In the future, Bloomberg’s Mark Gorman said in his Power On newsletter that iOS 16 will include future support for an always-on lock screen that would allow the iPhone to dramatically reduce frame rates and display “seeable information” when the screen is idle — similar to the latest Apple models. Watch. The said support is supposed to be enabled exclusively on iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

It was earlier rumored that Apple would offer always-on displays on iPhone 13 Pro models, though the company eventually didn’t offer that support.

Gurman also mentioned in his newsletter that iOS 16 will be somewhat of an “important upgrade” for iPhone users. It is claimed to have updates for notifications as well as new messaging and health apps.

On the messaging front, Apple is said to be introducing new experiences towards voice messaging.

It has also been reported that the new iOS version contains significant improvements to the lock screen, including wallpapers and widget-like capabilities.

In addition to the update for iPhone users, Apple is expected to improve the software experience on the iPad with the release of iPadOS 16 at this year’s WWDC. Gorman said the new iPadOS will come with major changes to windows and multitasking.

Apple is also said to be releasing a watchOS update with a list of improvements that “affect daily operation and navigation” on the Apple Watch. The company’s Health app has also been reported to be improving health tracking on both the iPhone and Apple Watch, though the app isn’t likely to be expanded to iPad and Mac.

Likewise, Apple TV users can expect some upgrades as Gurman said there will be more smart home connections available through the new tvOS release. On the other hand, Mac users can perform a complete overhaul of System Preferences to appear similar to the settings available on iOS.

Apple isn’t likely to unveil any new iPhone models at WWDC 2022 as it could present the iPhone 14 series at a different event sometime in September. However, Gurman speculated that the company was aiming to launch a new MacBook Air with M2 chips at the developer conference.

Gurman said developers told him that Apple employees are increasingly using next-generation MacBook Air models with their apps. The journalist previously said that along with the new MacBook Air options, Apple will upgrade the high-end Mac mini, 24-inch Mac, and the new low-cost MacBook Pro.

The WWDC major conference will take place around June 6th. After the keynote, the developer conference will begin and run until June 10.
