Here’s how ex-Rutgers star Ron Harper Jr.’s NBA Summer League debut with Raptors went

Ron Harper Jr. took another step in his NBA journey this weekend.

The former Rutgers star made his summer league debut with the Toronto Raptors on Saturday in Las Vegas. Harper finished with 9 points on 2 of 6 shots (1 of 5 on three throws; 4 of 4 on free throws), five rebounds, two possessions and four turns in 25 minutes during a 97-77 win over the Philadelphia 76ers at Cox Pavilion .

Harper scored his first points from the free-throw line, making back-to-back attempts in the second quarter. He hit his first shot in the third quarter, leading to his third attempt that day from behind the arc. Harper hit his second and final shot of the day shortly after, riding in a glass buoy.

It was Harper’s first act since he signed a two-way deal with the Toronto Raptors last month after he went out without drafting in the 2022 NBA draft.

Harper told the Raptors’ internal media on Friday that his goals in the Summer League are “to just go there and win games. Control what you can control. I’m going in there, doing the wins and doing everything I can to help this team win at the end of the day.”

Mission accomplished by first match.

Next up: Harper and the Raptors return to play on Tuesday, when they face the Chicago Bulls at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas.

Here is the rest of the Raptors schedule for the 2022 Summer League:
