Google Drive on Web Finally Gets Cut, Copy, Paste Keyboard Shortcuts, Rollout Starts June 1

Google has finally added keyboard shortcuts for cutting, copying, and pasting in Google Drive Web. You can access the functions from the Chrome browser on Windows and macOS devices. Users can also attach a link and address of the file they want to share in an email or document with the extension. For express release ranges, full rollout will start from May 26th and the feature will be visible within 1-3 days, and for scheduled release, full rollout will start from June 1st with the same timeframe for feature visibility.

Familiar keyboard shortcuts for cutting, copying, and pasting were announced via the Google Workspace Updates blog. Although copy-and-paste keyboard shortcuts are late, they have finally made their way to Google Drive Web on Google Chrome for Windows and macOS devices. This feature will also allow users to copy, paste and move files from Google Drive to other locations within the cloud services platform and across multiple tabs.

This new feature will allow Google Drive users to paste the address and link to the copied document using the same keyboard shortcuts for other documents and emails. The update will also allow users to create shortcuts to a file to avoid creating duplicate copies of the file in the user’s drive. Google has also enabled a keyboard shortcut to open files in a new tab.

Apart from the familiar CTRL + C for copying and CTRL + V for pasting, a Google Drive user can create a shortcut to the selected file using the keyboard shortcut CTRL + C and CTRL + Shift + V. To open a file in the New File tab, users will have to press keys CTRL + Enter.

For users with the Express Release Path enabled, the new features were made available on May 26. For users with the scheduled release path, which is the default, the features will be rolling out starting June 1. Available 1-3 days after product launch. The features will be available to all users of Google Workspace and personal Google accounts.

Recently, Google has also added text selection and multiple editing feature to Google Docs to increase productivity.
